Textile Artist Badge
When you see all the colors and textures of fabrics and yarns, do you dream up a million things to do with them? Get ready to turn those visions into reality as you meet with artists, learn about the world of textile arts, learn a new life skill, and make two projects.
We are excited to offer two paths to completing the Textile Artist badge for Senior Girl Scouts: machine sewing and crochet!
Machine Sewing
Learn how to use the sewing machine so you can do everything from sewing on your own badges to making your own clothes!
This 6-hour introduction is jam packed with information. We will cover safety, machine parts and their functions, threading the machine, and winding a bobbin. Learn how to select the correct fabric for your project, and how to use the most important tools.
Once we’re done practicing basic stitching, learn how to hem flat and in the round and make a pillowcase that you can use every day.
For the last step, choose between a baby blanket or drawstring bag to make as a gift for someone special.
After this series, you’ll be able to tackle almost any intermediate level sewing project!

Crochet
Learn how to crochet and get inspired to make anything from amigurumi plushies to blankets, clothes, and accessories!
This 8-hour introductory series will teach you the fundamentals of crochet, starting from how to hold and twist the hook, to mastering the chain, single, and double crochet stitches. Learn the differences between cotton and acrylic yarn, and how to choose the right size hook.
Once we’ve practiced the basic stitches, choose a fun yarn and crochet a cute scrunchie you can use to tie up your hair or wear around your wrist.
For the last step, crochet a granny square in a kaleidoscope of color to turn into a mini purse or coaster to give as a gift to someone special.
After this series, you’ll be able to tackle almost any intermediate level crochet project!
