This brand new series is created for and only open to members of Girl Scouts of

Northern CA. This is a complete introduction to the basics of sewing!

You can also use your new skills to sew on badges, make a special gift for someone,

or do community service sewing.

Seniors will earn the Textile Artist Badge

Juniors will be prepared to earn the Product Designer Badge

All participants will receive a Camp Fashionista  Fun Patch

part 1

Safety and explanation of machine parts and their functions, threading the machine, winding the bobbin, troubleshooting techniques, what a woven fabric is,  correct pinning,  how to measure seam allowance accurately, how to sew a hem,  learn to make a casing, then create a drawstring bag using these skills.


What a knit fabric is, what kind of needles to use for sewing with knit fabric, how to change a needle, sew with 2 different stretch stitches, make a hem using the zig zag stitch, create stitch samples to keep as a reference.

How to thread the needle and tie a knot, learn 2 basic stitches; running stitch & whip stitch, how to sew on 2 kinds of buttons: shank and sew through, then make a donut or banana pincushion using these stitches.

*Please note: Survival Sewing is offered as a 2 part weekend

 Girls need to attend both parts of the series to receive their Textile Artist Badge,

or meet the requirements to sign up for the Product Designer Badge.
